Honeymooning in the Cape - Franschhoek Wine Tram - Part 3

July 25, 2019

Honeymoon activities generally are reminiscent of horse drawn carriage rides, ballroom glitz and buckets and buckets of rose petals, there are few activities more sedate, romantic and perfectly paced than a wine tasting tram ride through Franschhoek.

Franschhoek is internationally acclaimed for its fine wines and outstanding restaurants (many of which we have covered in previous blog post), and the tram offers a hop-on, hop-off (no driving required) mode of transportation that allows you to take it all in (or whichever bits please you) at your leisure.

There are different types of tour (arranged by colour) and the differences are mainly regarding which estates you stop at to get complimentary wine tastings and pairings. Also, ensure that you book at your preferred restaurant (if you are planning on dining) in advance.

However you plan on going about it, this is a beautiful day out in one of the premiers, gourmand areas in the world!

Honeymooning in the Cape - Sunset and bubbly on top of Table Mountain - Part 2

July 24, 2019

Accommodation, sorted, now to the fun stuff. Whisk your new significant other up a world-famous mountain, and entertain them with fine bubbly and the feeling of being on top of the world (to match that newlywed top-of-the-world feeling you have already).

At 260 million years old Table Mountain is one of the oldest mountain ranges in existence, and it seems to elicit a similar magnetic pull and a sense of awe in everyone who sets eyes (or foot/feet) on it. Ask any Capetonian and they will confirm that the thing they miss the most when away, is knowing that their dear mountain is just “there”. You’ll know once you experience it yourself.

Once up top (using the wonderful Cable Car that rotates as it rises up to the top station) have a stroll around, pick out landmarks using their telescopes and then retire to the restaurant balcony for a nice bottle or two of Steenberg Chardonnay 1682 MCC (Methode Cap Classique, when in Rome…).

It can get very chilly up there and heading up when there is any kind of cloud cover (the “tablecloth” is also not recommended). Aim to be on top by 4:30-5:00 and you should be golden!.
