Once again the annual Cape Town Carnival promises to be a whirlwind of colour, music, dance and excitement. In this spectacular showcase of African heritage and pride we strut the stuff of generations of interleaving cultures.
The festivities begin at the Stadium Forecourt at Green Point Stadium with an exciting mix of band performances and stalls. This years’ theme, Ocean Oddysey, promises to ignite the Mother City once more in this, the eighth installment of this event.
Many months of planning culminate in the epic street parade, with floats being built, costumes meticulously designed and created and rehearsals, rehearsals and more rehearsals. Celebrating diversity in the best way we know how, this is a must-see! On the 18###sup/sup### of March, head over the Fan Walk in Green Point at 7:00 PM, and be swept away with the jubilant tide.
This week is a look at Africa through the lens of Cape Town, through festival, food and memorial.
There is a South African proverb that states:” Once you have found your first diamond, you will never give up looking.”
In that vein we keep finding little gems and experiences for you to enjoy while on our shores. From the continent that brought us humankind, three more outstanding adventures.
Off the back of the successful 2016 iteration of this event The Grand White is back this year to bedeck, bedazzle and wow. As the name implies, the theme and dress code is white (with a touch of green), which leads to a very visually pleasing luxury picnic at a secret location in the Mother City that’s only revealed to ticket holders on the day via sms.
This is yet another amazing and inventive way in which we Capetonians find our day in the sun. Once at the venue you will have the option of renting some of those picnic essentials such as picnic baskets, tables and chairs; unless you have your own, which you are more than welcome to bring along. The entertainment will be a selection of local acts (music and comedy) and the food promises to be delicious.
As difficult as it may be to describe an event that is still shrouded in secrecy, one thing is for certain. As a concept event, where the goal is to have an inspired and unencumbered day of frivolity and togetherness, The Grand White consistently delivers an experience that is unforgettable. Tickets are limited, get them here.
